Yo-Yo Reviews: Henrys M1 / M2
Fresh stuff from Karlsruhe: Henrys has released a new yo-yo, the M1.
It is the first complete full metal yo-yo made by Henrys.
The early models made by Henrys had either soft half shells (Viper 1997; Viper AXYS, Cobra), Rims with rubber (Tiger Snake, Coral Snake) or o-rings on the edge (Lizard). These yo-yos have all been designed in 1999 and so they come back to hand without the need of a bind.
Also the Henrys bind yo-yos from 2010 stay within this floor friendly concept. Viper Neo, Viper Flux and Viper Neo XL with soft half shells and the Python with rubber power rings on the rim.
The M2 is the second production run and is technical the same as the M1.

That was the background, now the key data of the M1:
Diameter: 55mm
Width: 42mm
Weight: 65 gram
Bearing: Flat size D
Response system: Silicone pads (Gecko-pad)

The string gap is fixed and cannot be adjusted. (With the MaxGap tuning set you can also make it wider if you want to.) A real specialty is the aluminum of which the M1 is made. It is completely lead-free! Also used for the 2010 Henrys bind yo-yos. Good for your health, unlike materials which are partly used by other yo-yo companies. The yo-yo is anodized and available in silver, red, green, blue or black. The special alloy is high-strength and of course also lead-free. The bearing is already cleaned and free of fat and oil. The processing is perfect and when changing a string no parts fall out of the yo-yo. To access the bearing the normal Henrys wrench is needed. This one is also included in the tuning set.

Play behavior:
And now from theory to practice: String on finger and let´s go!
65 gram distributed very well bring the necessary weight for a good sleeper and also the speed for playing is fast. Faster are only undersized yo-yos, which on the other hand loose in comparison of sleep time. The yo-yo feels good with the 55mm diameter and the nice alloy when holding it.
For binding the yo-yo comes excellent back to hand and the response is the way you want it to be. The silicone pads nearly never have to be exchanged. But if needed, you can buy replacement pads.
Normal grinds are working good and thanks to the groove in the halve thumbgrinds are easy to play.
Due to the smooth play style the M1 is often picked up.

Conclusion:

A very nice yo-yo made in Germany with eye catching colors. Very unique is the lead-free aluminum which differs the M1 from the many other metal yo-yos available on the market. It catches the spirit of modern yo-yo play. Qualitatively and technically it is high-end. This makes the M1 a crystal clear recommendation to buy.
The M1 costs about 54€ and is available in shops since July 2012.
